How to Convert MP4 Video Files To MP3

Want to convert your favourite Youtube, Vimeo or any other videos to MP3 format for your iPods or Mp3 players? Here’s how you can do it.

There are two ways to do this conversion. I personally prefer the second one. 

Convert Using Foobar2000

 

Foobar2000 is a free & easy-to-use audio player. You need to configure it before converting, which is a one time operation. For this, Download and Install Foobar2000, make sure you check the Converter option during installation.

After you are done with the installation, the next thing you need is an MP3 encoder. We are using LAME for this purpose. You can download it from here.(Download the first file LAME 3.98.4 on the page and extract its contents)

Run Foobar2000 and play MP4 file which you want to convert to MP3. You will be able to hear just the audio.

Now right-click on the file and click convert.

A Converter Setup Dialogue Box will open.(Once you get comfortable with this tool, you can use it to define any number of conversion presets)

Click Output Format and select MP3(LAME). The default encoding is done at 190kbps, you can also set bitrate and quality manually by clicking Edit.

Go back to the Converter Setup Dialog and click Convert.(We are leaving all extra options at default. You can change destination folder, audio processing etc. if you want to..)

An error message will pop up, letting you know this operation may result in a loss of quality. Don’t worry just Click Yes!

Now just enter the name of the resulting MP3 file and Save it wherever you want to.

Foobar2000 will now ask you where lame.exe is. Go to the directory where you extracted LAME archive and execute lame.exe.

After that, you will see a progress bar running as the conversion takes place.

All DONE!!! If you want to convert more files, there is no need to configure Foobar2000 again. All you have to do is to right-click on the file —-> select Convert and click  [Last Used].

Convert Using An Online Converter (The Easy Way)

The easiest way to convert MP4 to MP3 is by using an online converter. You can use YouTube mp3 for this purpose. ( The only drawbacks using this technique are: you can only convert one file at a time and cannot change its quality or bitrate)

Just paste the URL of the video in the text box —->click Convert Video and Download it to your PC
